100 Residents Join Todd at Open Forum

On Wednesday night, more than 100 Addison residents attended a public candidate forum at the Addison Conference Center. Every other candidate for Town office was invited, but only one other council candidate came and so did I.

We met a lot of interested and engaged voters, who had plenty of excellent questions about a wide range of issues, including public safety, sewer and water rates, city revenue and expenses, economic development, parks, traffic, and other topics of community interest.

I deeply appreciate the Addison voters who took time from their busy schedules to ask good questions and to hear a discussion of the issues facing our city.  I was disappointed the other candidates for Mayor did not take the time to join us.

Elections should be about the open and transparent discussion of issues between the candidates -- especially when voters ask the questions and raise the issues. Since this campaign began, I've attended more than 50 events around town and met hundreds of citizens who are very interested in the future of their community.

Who is this guy?

A Record of Leadership

Todd has a strong background in running a business, protecting the safety of citizens, and working with the community service organizations available to all of our residents. He served on the Addison City Council from 2007 to February 2009.

In February 2009, Todd moved into a home on Park Place. Before that, he lived on Towne Lake Circle and before that, on Winnwood. He has served as vice chairman of the Addison Planning and Zoning Commission and as president of the Towne Lake of Addison Homeowners Association. Those experiences have strengthened Todd ’s resolve to continue to protect property values, enhance the tax base and keep the excellent level of city services we already have.

Todd’s business values were shaped at the Rodger Meier Cadillac, Meier Infiniti and Meier Oldsmobile dealerships located on LBJ Freeway, where he was president and general manager for most of his career. Since 1998, Todd has been engaged in the evaluation of companies and their services for his private investment firm based in Addison. He is a past board member of the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Dallas and a graduate of the Town of Addison Citizen Academy, Leadership Metrocrest and Leadership Dallas.

Keeping the Community Safe

Early in his career, Todd put his Southern Methodist University law degree to work. As an assistant district attorney and chief prosecutor for Dallas County, he learned the importance of keeping our community safe from criminals by ensuring that public safety services have the necessary resources. A board member of the Friends of the Dallas Police in the early 1990s, he also served as chairman of the Dallas Police Drug Oversight Task Force in 2003.

Family Ties

Both of Todd’s children grew up in Addison and, like their dad, are graduates of Greenhill School.  Brennan, 24, is a fifth grade teacher in Las Vegas as part of the Teach for America and will complete his two-year service commitment in August. After that, the Duke University graduate plans to enter law school in Texas. Mackenzie, 20, is in her sophomore year and majoring in finance and accounting at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

Janet and Scott Cashen, Todd’s sister and nephew, live in Addison, where Janet teaches school.

His sweetheart, Nelly Garcia, lives in Addison as well.

On Valentine’s Day, Nelly Garcia and Todd Meier attended the Water Tower Theatre's benefit gala in Addison to celebrate Terry Martin’s decade as the theatre’s producing artistic director. Todd and Nelly are opening night season ticket holders.
